Genius. The first word that came into my mind while listening to the Dev D sountrack. He had also done Aamir before that (which also was really good) but it was after Dev D that I knew Amit Trivedi is the next A.R. Rahman. Now after Wake Up Sid and Udaan, that has been confirmed. Amit Trivedi is on his way to international stardom. He is the most refreshing music director in the business today and he is pretty young. He has many years ahead of him and with each new album, his output is getting better and better.
Amit Trivedi is already a winner, winning awards for his critically recognized soundtrack ‘Dev D.’ This trend is likely to continue with his latest movie soundtrack which had it’s launch last Sunday. It is for the movie, ‘Aisha.’ The cast and crew of this film is very young and they wanted some fresh air for the music and so Amit Trivedi was entrusted with it. Rhea Kapoor (the producer) did not curb Amit Ji’s freedom at all and this shows in the way the music flows.
There are six tracks along with two remixes by ‘The BombayBounce.’
I’m going to try and review each song even though I’m not very good at that. I know it won’t be as in depth as you might expect but still I’ll give it a shot.
The first song on the album is the title track, ‘Suno Aisha’ and this song has already struck a chord with the youth. The first song promo was for this song only and the elegant looking Sonam Kapoor along with a hit track proved to be a winner. This song is climbing up all the charts fast and is already most peoples favorite song from the album. The singers are Amit Trivedi, Nakash Aziz & Ash King and along with some jazz instruments, the song comes together very youthful and modern. The lyrics are another strong point to the song with lyricist Javed Akthar at the helm. This song will be a long lasting hit, just like Amit Trivedi’s Emosanal Attyachaar.’
Next up on the album is ‘Gal Mitthi Mitthi’ and it is a very Punjabi-hipster song. Let me explain. The song has a lot of dhol and drums and keeps on repeating a few lines from the song. Tochi Raina has a good voice and sounds even better with all the bass playing in the background. This will surely be a hit in the clubs and on the dance floor. You will definitely see it at weddings as well. The promo has also caught the eyes of the public. Another winner of the album.
The third song on the album is ‘Sham.’ This song is a slow and pleasant one. This one would go into the alternative rock category. It has got an acoustic guitar for help and beautiful vocals by Nikhil D’Souza, Amit Trivedi & Neuman Pinto. I’m not sure where to take this song to. I mean it’s not very worthy of repeat listening but if it is well mixed in with the movie then it can be a winner. I’m wondering where it will fit in the movie. It might be in one of those emotional/sad scenes. Hopefully, it can strike a chord within all of us.
Next up is ‘Behke Behke’ and is sung byAnushka Manchanda. This song sounds like it is trying too much. It starts very upbeat and tries to keep it for the whole length of the song. The vocals of Anushka is a plus point to this song and I don’t think anyone else would have been able to pull it off so well. Plus the other background vocals by Samrat Kaushal, Raman Mahadevan, Robert Omulo & Suman Sridhar. The lyrics stand out in this song. The beat and everything gets a little bit too much but on the whole it could on every DJs list.
My other favorite on the album is up next. Titled ‘Lehrein,’ the vocals of Anusha Mani are the best. This song is a winner straight from the start. This seems like the best romantic song out there. Something you can leave on at your home while you and your girlfriend have wine and chat. This song goes straight to your head and probably won’t come out for long. The chorus also strikes a chord. I think the lyrics are very powerful here and this song will be understated. Anusha Mani is someone you are going to be getting used to very soon. Thumbs up to this one!
Anushka Manchanda is at it again. This time in the song playing during the trailer. It’s called ‘By The Way.’ This song actually fits the bill very well. This one is also very upbeat and the rhythm is very good. Anushka stamps her attitude into this song and proves herself to be a winner. It sounds like a mix of the western chick-rock songs but it is different in it’s own way. You get taken in by the vocals from the first few seconds of the song and again the lyrics prove to be a winner. This song perfectly fits the character of ‘Emma’ that Sonam Kapoor is playing. In the trailer also, the song fits in perfectly. Looks like all the people are going to get excited listening to this one.
That does it for the songs but what about the two remixes? Well, I might as well try to do them as well.
I’ll start of with the ‘Gal Mitthi Mitthi (The Bombay Bounce Dhol Mix).’ These remixes I don’t think so were Amit Trivedi’s ideas. He has only done one or two remixes in his previous albums and only the ‘Wake Up Sid’ title track remix was good. This remix also sounds like over the top. I know it is DJ driven but still. It robs the song of everything. It strips it down into almost nothing. Just pure noise to me. Thumbs down for me.
Next up and the last on the album is ‘Lehrein Remix (The Bombay Bounce Lounge Mix).’ This one is even worse. This song wasn’t ever meant for the DJs. I don’t know who chose the songs that were to be turned into remixes but they are horrible. Lehrein Remix retains things from the original but the unnecessary beat makes it really annoying. Not every going to play this song. In the middle, the vocals go really low and you wonder just why was this made into such an awful remix. Hopefully Amit Trivedi will always keep remixes down to a minimum.
All songs done. Overall, I’m really happy with this album. Amit Trivedi is a genius who gets better and better with every album. This album sounds youthful and very refreshing. Kudos to Amit Trivedi. Also, at 26 minutes (without the remixes), the size is pretty good.
The album does live up to the huge expectations of the movie. Without the remixes, this album is even more of a winner. I would recommend it to one and to everyone. Trivedi’s work shines throughout the album and a lot of little known people get recognition which is great. Trivedi doesn’t go over the top and doesn’t need anyone in his team. He is a one man train that won’t be stopped for a long time.
Go out and buy the CD now. Do not pirate it. It’s totally worth the money.

Alright, pretty ok review, would like to point out a few things.
1) Aamir is Amit Trivedi’s best work to date, maybe udaan’s almost up there. Saying it was only ‘really good’ is an understatement.
2) You say Sham is not very worthy of repeating? like wtf? yes i respect people’s opinions but seriously saying it’s a one time listen is just plain stupid..its one of the most beautiful songs written in recent times..the problem is its not going to be a hit, cause people nowadays dont like quality music
3) Wake up sid’s soundtrack was not Amit Trivedi’s..it was composed by Shankar, ehsaan and loy…only ‘Iktara’ was Amit’s which was beautiful! just beautiful..
SO yeahh, that’s all i guess…good try..sorry if i sounded a little too vindictive..just a huge fan of Amit Trivedi’s..So all i’m going to say is next time try to put in a little more research if you really love someone’s music!
Cheers!
